retirement transition

Retirement Transition

Successful Transition through Collaboration

Successful Transition through Collaboration

If you are 1-2 years from retiring, and  you plan on relocating to a new retirement home, there are a lot of moving parts that need to be coordinated to ensure a smooth transition.

I provide the project management skills to get you from your current working/living place to your new retirement home.

  • Research and financial analysis
  • Conduct interviews
  • Walk the walk: ensure meeting goals and action-items from the transition plan are met in time so you are not left out in the cold during the transition

I’ll go even further and create a timeline and budget describing how this will all work with your cash flow.  In weekly or bi-weekly meetings, we’ll discuss the research and data that will provide you with the information and confidence to make your financial decisions.

Successful Transition through Collaboration

How have I helped my clients in the past? By taking a large, multi-dimensional process, and breaking it down into small goals. Collaboratively, we then continued the process to achieve each intermittent goal.

Recently I worked with a couple, Jack and Joan, they wanted to retire and move from their Virginia home to a custom-built home in Orlando, Florida. They were busy professionals that lacked the time to devout to such a large, multi-faceted project.

Because there were so many elements at play I broke down the final goal into the following attainable steps:

  • Examining the couple’s current cash flow to see how it would change in retirement.
  • Facillitated discussion on the sale of real estate.
  •  Researching custom home builders in Orlando.
  •  Scheduling interviews between Jack and Joan and the builder candidates, using Zoom.
  • Compiling the comparative information of builders, costs and processes into a spreadsheet that includes a  timeline of the process.
  • Writing summaries of our weekly meetings containing action item checklists for both clients.
  • Researching construction loans, dovetailing that process with the timeline and clients’ cash flow.
  • Researching mover and storage options during the time it took to build the home.

Ongoing meetings, weekly or bi-weekly, were the key to seeing the results and also provided a forum for discussion of ideas, an opportunity for course correction if necessary, and a place for each person to air concerns and fears that were heard and discussed in a non-judgmental environment.

All was accomplished with my usual pragmatism and sense of humor, an approach that resulted in an efficient and comfortable process.Even if your retirement transition is not this complex, you may benefit from having me as your project manager to ensure a smooth flow, open communication and clear decision-making process.

Custom pricing: depending on the project complexity and timeline.
