I grew up in Worcester, Pennsylvania, (which is outside of Philadelphia), on a small farm, where yes, there was a springhouse. I developed strength and perseverance through "bringing in the straw bales" on a hot humid day. After graduating from Temple University with a degree in Communications, I moved to Northern Virginia where I have lived for the past 40 years.
I had a variety of career and life experiences, all of which have been woven together and utilized in my business and personal financial coaching practice. My first job out of college was at a local TV news affiliate. The next decade was spent at home raising four children. I loved being an at-home mom, but I also like to contribute to the family coffers and during that time I engaged in a number of income producing endeavors.
Opportunities opened up once the kids were in school, allowing me to broaden my managerial skills. I dipped my toe in the financial waters by working for a private student loan company, then the purchasing department at Nextel, and finally I progressed to working as an executive assistant for a financial planner. It was here that I learned about business consulting, finance, retirement planning, investments, insurance and annuities. I became aware of how many people need someone to solve the challenges of their ever growing business, as well as provide tools to free business owners from some of the administrative tasks that keep them from doing what they do best.
I saw how the journey to business and personal financial stability and growth was accelerated by having that knowledgeable advisor. However, what really became crystal clear was the great need of cash-flow management help.
I believe that everyone, in particular couples, need a system to manage their income and expenses — a system that facilitates saving and spending in a relatively stress-free way, using steps put in place to manage their cash flow. This results in a streamlined process that, I call "The Don't Think Too Much" cash flow system.
It has been my passion for the last 15 years to help my clients with their cash flow management. For couples, effective money management can establish a level of protection for their marriage. I understand very well how marriages can suffer and even fail due to financial struggles. I want to help couples avoid the finance-related pitfalls inevitable in most close relationships and help them become financially renewed.
Coming from a family of six children, and raising four kids of my own has given me a deep understanding of personal and family dynamics and the inevitable impact of these dynamics on spending decisions. I have the ability to uncover each person's money story and how it is affecting their relationship with spending and saving, and their significant other.
My customized spending plan incorporates the way each individual thinks about money, removing barriers to progress and propelling them forward, toward prosperity.
I provide "refresh- check ins" that help with the financial transition until the training wheels attached to this new way of thinking come off. My methods help the young and newly employed, couples wanting to better manage their finances, and those looking to transition to retirement.
For fun, I enjoy hiking, gardening (including growing hops), decorating my house, and hanging out with my grandchildren. I am on the board of two local non-profits: The Sterling Foundation, creating a better community, and The New Ag School, growing “tomorrow’s farmers today."
I love to make connections with people and discover something about them that is inspirational. (because everyone contains an element of inspiration) There are no strangers.....just people I haven't met yet.
It is through this gift of connecting with those around me and my experience with finances and human nature, that I help clients navigate great business and personal financial decisions. Please book a time for a zoom call. I look forward to meeting you!
